State 2007

 

The Sidney chapter of Skills-USA attended the 36th Annual State Leadership & Skills Conference in Havre on the Campus of MSU Northern on April 2-4th 2007. There were 37 schools from around the state that came to compete in the 41 different skills and leadership contests.

The Sidney chapter took seven members.
Jade B. and Matt N. competed in the Cabinetmaking and millwork and Quiz Bowl , Casey D. in Job interview, Basic welding and Quiz Bowl, Ronnie K. and Lyle P. in Arc welding, Matt H. in Combination welding, and Julia H. in Basic woodworking and Quiz Bowl.

Everyone did an excellent job in each of their contest.
The medalists were Matt N. taking the bronze (3rd) in the cabinetmaking contest and Jade B. taking the gold in the cabinetmaking.  The cabinetmaking contestants had 4 hours to complete a laptop desk.

Jade has now qualified to compete at the national cabinetmaking contest against the winners from each state.  The National Leadership and Skills-USA conference is June 25-29 in Kansas City, MO.

Another highlight of the conference was Sidney’s Dustin Merritt, who is finishing his sophomore year at MSN Northern in the Diesel Technology program, was selected as a State Officer for the Montana post-secondary Skills-USA for the 2007-08 school years.
