Basic English 9

Basic English 9 is a year long course that mirrors CA9.  Students are introduced to a variety of literature through different textbooks and reading materials.  Writing skills are emphasized through the use of Daily Oral Language and individual writing projects.  Class time is also spent on basic skills (study skills, vocabulary, spelling, and speaking).  Time is allowed to introduce the students to the various resources available in the library.

Basic English 10

Basic English 10 is a year long course that mirrors CA10. Students are exposed to a variety of literature through reading the myths of other lands (Greek, Roman, Native American, and Scandinavian). Emphasis is placed on the understanding of how these myths relate to current times and their relevance now. Part of the class time is spent on basic skills ( study skills, vocabulary, spelling, grammar, writing and speaking). Time is also spent on familiarizing the students with the various resources available in the library.

Comm. Arts 9

This is a full year course designed to incorporate readings in world literature, a review of grammar, and an introduction to the writing process, speaking and listening. The readings in literature will be a survey of types of literature: short stories, poetry, non-fiction, drama, and the novel. Writing, speaking, and listening projects will be based upon the literary readings. Vocabulary and spelling skills will focus on context vocabulary and literary terms.

Comm. Arts 10

This is a full long year course designed to present reading from classical literature based upon ancient Greek and Roman mythology. Reading, writing, and speaking and listening activities will center around non-fiction, poetry. and drama. Students will write paragraphs and essays, give classroom presentations, and prepare major projects based on mythology and career choices. Students will practice grammar and mechanics daily. They will strengthen their vocabulary and spelling skills through the study of words from the reading.
