The U.S. government, multi-national corporations, and university systems call for students who can speak and understand other languages as well as be aware of and respect other cultures. Our national security and economic prosperity depends on our ability to communicate with all countries around the world. Students who study a second language improve skill areas of reasoning ability, analysis, creative thinking, memory and mental discipline. They can combine their second language knowledge with career choices in international business, medicine, law, communications, journalism, music, the travel industry, scientific and engineering fields, teaching , military, and civil services and politics. It is a good idea for all students to study two years of a second language. It is a must for college-bound students.
