French I
1 credit        9-10-11-12        Prerequisite: None

French I is a basic introduction to the French language. Students will learn the basic language skills of listening, speaking, reading and writing. It will include pronunciation, basic French grammar and vocabulary. Culture is presented through class discussions, the internet, videos, newspaper and magazine articles and satellite French television.

 

French II
1 credit        10-11-12        Prerequisite: French I

French II is a continuation of French I. It includes a grammar review but it has more emphasis on speaking, reading, writing and culture. Cassettes, the internet, video magazines, and satellite French television are used for reinforcing cultural awareness and introducing new vocabulary.

 

French III
1 credit        11-12        Prerequisite: "C" or better in French II or consent of instructor.

French III continues to strengthen reading, speaking, listening, writing and cultural awareness through magazines, cassettes, CDs, satellite French television and the internet. Grammar is reviewed and new vocabulary is introduced. AP class.

 

French IV
1 credit        12        Prerequisite: "B" or better in French III or consent of instructor

French IV continues to strengthen communication skills through magazines, the internet and satellite French television. The culture of France, Canada and French-speaking countries is studied in more depth. The emphasis is on French literature and composition or on intensive grammar review depending on student intent. Offered by consent of instructor only. The class meets the same period with the French III class. AP class.
